A Few of Our Favorite Things
I created this page to compile resources in an easy-to-find spot for you. These are places and products and services we love and recommend.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
This page contains affiliate links. I may get a portion of your purchase if you click a link and buy something. There is no extra charge to you. For more information, see our disclosure statement.
Airfare Watchdog alerts us by email to track prices for our upcoming flights. They let us know the restrictions, also. We have used them for years, even before blogging.
My parents have been doing this for years. It ends up less expensive to purchase a hotel stay either on the beginning or end of their trip than to park at the airport. The hotel then allows them to park their car in the hotel’s secured lot for their trip for free, and shuttles them to the airport and back!
With ParkSleepFly, you can also find deals on local airport parking places, as well, if you don’t want the hotel stay.
We love using hotels.com to find the best deal for what we need on our trips. They have a rewards program, and an easy-to-use app.
Shopping online? Don’t forget to go to Ebates first, THEN look for your store’s website from there.
Shopping in-store? Gotcha covered – Check Ebates.com or the Ebates app for in-store savings!
This is a legit company (I have been asked this question!) and they have saved us a TON of $$ over the last couple of years we have used them.
Don’t have an account? It’s easy! Click the green logo above, and:
- Sign up for a free account.
- Check their website/app/browser extension.
- Head to the desired shopping site using the above method in step 2.
- Earn cash back on purchases.
- Your savings add up, and they pay you quarterly, in a Big Fat Check!
Check CityPass first for savings on attractions in various large US Cities (and Southern California) and even Toronto.
We recently used CityPASS for our NYC Thanksgiving 2018 trip for a discounted price on visiting the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, 911 Memorial, and city views via the Empire State Building (Sleepless in Seattle, anyone?).
Be sure to check their site to see if they have discounts for a city and attractions you’re interested in.
Namecheap helped us research and decide on the new name for this site.
We transitioned from our former blog and wanted to rebrand with a fresh site. Their keyword searches made it easy to discover what was available and what was not.
You also get free WhoIsGuard with every domain you buy from them. This protects your real address from being “out there” in a public search.
According to their site, Nameboy is the oldest and most popular domain name generator in the world. They have:
- a simple home page, with
- search front and center, and
- an article for tips and help just below that, and
- more articles under their Resources menu.
If you are using BlueHost to host your WordPress site, Nameboy’s search conveniently links right to a BlueHost screen.
Canva is our go-to where we make Instagram posts and Pinterest Graphics. They have TONS of free and paid stock photos, and templates for various social media sites, plus backgrounds, fonts, layouts, shapes, shading, and colors.
While many bloggers recommend another hosting platform, we have switched to BigScoots for better support and to handle more traffic to the site. They have had superb customer service, and handle requests quickly. They even have a 24h chatbox on their site.
Working From Home
Learn to Proofread:
This was how I got started learning about working from home ideas. I signed up for Caitlin’s free course to see if proofreading was for me. When she had her Work-at-home-heroes Summit with interviews from many different successful entrepreneurs willing to teach what they know, it opened up a whole new world to me.
Start a Travel Blog:
Love to travel? Why not share your tips of ideas, hacks, lists, or places to go with others? Travel Blog Blastoff is the course that helped me add travel to our site.
They also offer a 30-day blogging course which is really comprehensive.
How to Start a Blog, Free Course:
Love to write? Interested in starting your own blog? Want to know how to begin? This course from Making Sense of Cents is where I got started.
Products We Love
Really there are just a few. We try to use organic and/or safe products without harmful additives.
The best part? Their customer service is fantastic.
When I couldn’t find a good matching shade, they told me that my skin tone/shade was in development, but I could order the lighter one and request (they told me the name of the under-development shade).
They special-mix it for me. I LOVE THAT! It matches my skin perfectly, and people have noticed.
They now have a rewards program, also.
And they ALWAYS send me a free sample with my order of something different I haven’t tried yet. Not even Avon ladies always give you samples anymore.
We have tried so many “safe” organic sunscreens. Kiss My Face Kids Defense can be found at Amazon. It sprays on, works well, and does not leave a white film (my favorite part).
You can also get it at Whole Foods, but it’s less expensive on Amazon. We use it on the whole family. It’s even cheaper on auto-ship, and we go through a lot during the summer.
We use PetFlow.com for all our pet food, toy, essentials, and treat needs, shipped right to our home! No hauling big bags of dog food in and out of the car.
Kudos to PetFlow – they donate a bowl of pet food to a needy pet for each shipment they make.
When ours were little, their grandparents loved to get them videos and books with their names right in the story.
What fun! You can do this, too ~ Put Me In the Story does it all for you! Thrill your kids or grandkids by having a custom-made item with them as the star!
New customers save 10% on their first order of any personalized books from Put Me In The Story. Use coupon code SAVE10NEW to redeem this offer.
Use code STORYTIME sitewide through 12/31/19 for 20% off.
These are products and services we use and trust. We trust that you’ll enjoy them, also.
